Are there any Christians who can give me a logical response to the "problem of evil"?

But without the potential to do evil (which thus turned into the existence of evil), how could one know love and goodness? If we knew no evil desires then we would not know the true power of love. And on top of that, we would not be able to discern what God's love really means!
